Okay, I'm chipping away at this beast (one pitiful piece at a time). Since it seems like AOP is likely going to figure into the solution somehow, I've added some simple AOP logging to my app, to dip my toe into the AOP water.
Now to try to go from a (Transfer) object to Flex in some unfactored way, to try to get my head around how that works.
