It was worth a shot, but unfortunately that did not change the behavior.

I also thought "okay, I've made a ton of changes to the decorator, maybe
Transfer is just reading old stuff".  However, wiping out all of the
*.transfer files still results in the same behavior.

Here's the _really_ odd part: I could have sworn that this exact same code
was behaving as expected 8 months ago.
