We translated OpenOffice.org 2.1 in PO format. The resulting files were then converted by Pootle into the GSI file suitable for submission. Pootle also runs the msgfmt tests, plus the OpenOffice.org-specific tests.I use po format too.

Of course, everyone can use what he/she wants but ... as you say it is onlyone tool among others.
Absolutely. I think that is one of its strongest points: you can combine it with your other tools. Any single tool trying to cover all possible situations then aims to _replace_ our usual tools. Pootle just gives you more options.

You can search globally, or at different levels of the tree. It's quick. Replace is an uocoming feature.

You have complete control over user access. You can assign individual files or directories to users, and can restrict their level of participation. The "suggestion" level is particularly useful for translators who need review.

It's up to you how you design your workflow: Pootle, like any tool, can be part of that.

Do you mean commit notification? That's part of the source control functions.
Some of us have these at moment using oo.o webspace. What we not have, is central input/output/overview, which should be also solved in much lowerlevel than pootle is.
Pootle can do a lot of the things you want, but like any tool, it's completely up to you if you use it or not. It's free software.
