so it was indeed a bug in pot2po from toolkit, I just committed a fix
which will be

you'll need to replace the toolkit file translate/convert/pot2po with
the latest version, grab if from
https://translate.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/translate/src/trunk/translate/convert/pot2po.py

we should be making a new release of toolkit soon as we approach a
new virtaal beta.
