FUTURE OF THE S.E.E.C FAQ

I have been maintaining the s.e.e.c FAQ since the inception of the
sci.engr.electrical.compliance newsgroup in April 1996 and for most of
that time Martin Rowe has hosted and maintained the web version. More
recently Tom Sato has maintained a Japanese version.

Martin now finds that a combination of work and personal commitments
means it is no longer possible for him to maintain the English language
veb version, and a notice has already appeared on his website
http://world.std.com/~techbook/compliance_faq.html saying this will "go
dark" on September 1st.

Over the last year or so, it has become apparent that the vast majority
of readers access the (HTML) web version and it is no longer appropriate
to continue to maintain the monthly ASCII posting to s.e.e.c

I am not able to undertake to maintain the website version and therefore
a volunteer is needed to take over from both of us the maintenance and
web hosting of the FAQ. The monthly posting of an ASCII version is
clearly no longer necessary.

I do hope that one of those who has found the FAQ useful will feel able
to take this over. In the absence of a volunteer, the next posting on
August 15th will be the last update of the ASCII version. The ASCII text
files will be available for at least some time to come from my website at
http://www.lyons.demon.co.uk as files seecfaq1.txt and seecfaq2.txt but
will not be further updated.

The HTML version will definitely be withdrawn on September 1st. I am
sure Martin will be happy to make the files available to a new maintainer
to avoid the need for re-coding from scratch.

This announcement is being emailed to all known past contributors to the
FAQ, posted to s.e.e.c and related newsgroups, and to the EMC-PSTC and
TREG mailing lists. I do hope one of you will be interested in taking
over the FAQ - please let me hear from you.

Best regards to all

Bill
