Hi Ron,

Concerning the current review into TS001:
The reason you can not find any information on TS001 on the ACIF web site is
because, technically, TS001 is still an ACA standard (i.e. ACA TS001) and
has not been reviewed since ACIF came into being in 1997). Additionally,
the ACIF review is still in progress so until ACIF either publish a revised
version (as AS/ACIF S001) or acquit the requirements of the present TS001 in
another way (i.e. do away with those present requirements which are no
longer appropriate and move any remaining requirements onto some other
document such as AS/NZS 60950 or S002 etc - unsure how this may work at the
moment) there will be no mention of TS001 on the ACIF web site etc. NOTE,
if ACIF decide to publish a revised version of TS001 (as S001) this new
standard will then need to be adopted by the ACA into regulations by way of
the TLN (Telecommunications Labelling Notice).

Side note - I am a member of the ACIF Customer Equipment & Cabling Reference
Panel (ACIF/CECRP) under which the present TS001 review is taking place
(Working Committee #11 or ACIF/CECRP/WC11). I am also a member of
ACIF/CECRP/WC11.

Concerning future revisions:
Not sure if you are referring to future revision of S001, if published, or
revisions to equipment which must comply with TS001/S001 etc.

Both ACIF and Standards Australia generally conduct reviews of their
documents/standards on an as needed basis. If ACIF decide to publish a
revised TS001 (as S001) then revision would be done on a REGULAR basis and
would become part of the regulatory requirements after being mandated by the
ACA as with any other ACIF standard. If on the other ACIF decided to move
still relevant TS001 requirements to other documents (subject of course to
the agreement of other bodies if the documents are not ACIF documents such
as AS/NZS 60950) then those old TS001 requirements would become part of that
other document and be revised as part of that document when it is revised.

If you are referring to revision of the equipment, once equipment is
labelled as compliant and introduced to the Australian market it would
remain compliant unless:
a) an applicable standard for that product was revised and the ACA
stipulated that existing equipment must comply with the new or revised
standard (usually with a grace period applying); or
b) the equipment is modified and those modifications MAY have an impact on
compliance with the applicable standards for that product (note the modified
product would need to comply with the present versions of all applicable
standards).

Hope this clarifies your questions Ron.

Best regards,
Kevin Richardson

Hi Kevin,

Its nice to hear from someone down under ( I might bet that you've heard
that many times before).

In your previous post, you wrote:

"Slight correction though Ron:
1. TS001 is currently under review within ACIF and the outcome of that
review will be either to:
- remove requirements no longer appropriate and transfer the remainder into
other documents; or
- revise and republish TS001."

This is encouraging. However, I could find no status from the ACIF website
on TS001 (or to be
AS/ACIF S001?) As to working TS001 into other documents, IMHO this would
create a large amount of
duplication.

"2. TS001:1997 is still called up by the regulations. TS001 requires
compliance with AS/NZS 3260, so until such time as the ACIF review into
TS001 is completed all telecoms product MUST comply with TS001:1997, and
therefore AS/NZS 3260 (even thought the current national safety standard is
in fact AS/NZS 60950)."

Agreed. But to potentially open a can of worms, do you know how the ACIF
intends to treat TS001
equipment revisions after ACIF S001 is published OR, as you've stated, after
TS001 is worked into
other documents? Just curious.

Comments anyone?

Best regards,

Ron Pickard
