Yes. In North America, a Bellcore standard is followed: LSSGR TR-TSY 000506, Issue 3, "Signaling, Sections 6.1 to 6.4" These include (all On/Off times in seconds): Type On Off On Off On Off ---- --- --- --- --- --- --- 1 2.0 4.0 2 0.8 0.4 0.8 4.0 3 0.4 0.2 0.4 0.2 0.8 4.0 Obviously, Type 1 is a standard ring cycle; Type 2 and Type 3 are the "distinctive" rings. In my experience, most cordless phones get confused by Type 2 and Type 3, and cannot properly repeat the ring cycle. Also, many of the "toll saver" answering machines get confused by the distinctive rings, thus making the feature useless. ------------------------------------------------------------------ John Combs, Senior Project Engineer, Inchcape Testing Services Email: [email protected] URL: http://www.testmark.com ------------------------------------------------------------------
