The harmonization rules were accepted by Canada and anounced in
the Gazzett on June 14. The new rules become effective on Aug. 14,
1996. This does not mean that the FCC has adopted the new rules. In
fact, don't expect the FCC to use the new rules until some time next
year.
A point of note concerning IC using the new rules. With the new
rules, Canada will change to using ringer equivelance numbers (REN) like
the FCC intead of Load numbers. The product will require the
REN be placed on it. Canada only has A ringer types. They do not have
B ringing. Manufacturers that like to list the B REN on their FCC
label will also have to test to and list the A REN for use in
Canada.
