Hello all,

AUSTEL and Telstra are definitely not merging!

As has been said in a few of the replies I have already seen Telstra used to be
the monopoly carrier before AUSTEL came into being in 1989 and therefore
controlled connection requirements also. Since 1989 AUSTEL has performed the
regulatory and standards setting function. As of 1 Jul 97 AUSTEL and the SMA
(Spectrum Management Agency in Australia) will merge into being one regulator
for all communications and EMC issues etc.

As for Euro (ETSI) ISDN in Australia, cone of the replies suggested it may be
wise to also consider approval to the existing Australian version of ISDN for a
while as both services will be available for some time. In addition the
roll-out of the new Euro ISDN suggests this new service will not be available to
many areas of Australia for some time.

I realise this is not the place to solicit or market product or services but for
those interested I produce a "Australian Telecommunications Report" for my
clients. Such reports address product and service requirements, standards,
legislation, planned new services etc for all areas of telecommunication and IT
in Australia and New Zealand. One of my recent reports deals with the
introduction of Euro ISDN in Australia and it's associated roll-out plans,
timescales, AUSTEL development of standards for testing etc. If anyone is
specifically interested in this report I would be happy to discuss some
arrangement.

Best regards,
Kevin
