Q: How can I tell who my default carrier is (or which carrier belongs to a 10XXX+ code)? A: In most areas of the U.S. and Canada, dial 1 700 555.4141 to get a recording indicating the default carrier. This should be a free call. From regular lines, dialing 10XXX + 1 700 555.4141 should yield the identifying recordings of other carriers in most cases. Note that some carriers are not available in all regions, and that some carriers do not set up a recorded identification message. I realize that this is slightly off-topic, but this is the best place I know to ask this question... Does anyone know the telephone number that one can dial in the U.S. that will respond with an automated announcement of which long distance carrier provides your service? My boss is afraid that he has been "slammed" and he wants to check which carrier his home line is currently defaulted to. ------------------------------------------------------------------ John Combs, Senior Project Engineer, Inchcape Testing Services Email: [email protected] URL: http://www.testmark.com ------------------------------------------------------------------
