Dick,
In the last year Austel has cut back its role in processing approvals
significantly. Currently only a certificate from the lab is sent with the
application.
Austel does not want to see your test report!
Therefore, Austel is removed from interpretation of standards. The
responsibility for proper interpretation now resides with your accredited lab.
Go to your project handler and ask, "Does AS/NZ 3260 require basic, or
supplementary insulation between TNV and grounded SELV."
If you don't like the answer, you can;
1. Appeal to the lab.
2. Try a competetor lab.
3. Try to change the standard via Standards Australia {phone:(02) 746 4600}
This is not likely to happen.
4. Write Dr. Vembanoor Mani at Austel, and ask him to influence the Lab's
interpretation.

Fellow TREGers,
Does anyone have recent experience with the isolation requirements for
a BRI T interface in Australia? There were a lot of opinions expressed
on the subject in January but nobody identified a hard decision by
AUSTEL.
