I just said that there were no "requirements" under any of the New Approach
Directives (outside of Competent Body assistance under article 10.2, 89/336/EEC)
to do anything other than fill out a Declaration of Conformity and affix the CE
mark.

I was wrong on that. For some Directives, the Machinery Directive, for example,
and I believe the Telecommunications Terminal Equipment Directive, and even the
EMC Directive for radio telecommunications transmit devices, there is a
requirement for particularly mentioned apparatus to undergo Examination to Type.
This can only be performed by a Notified Body.

Not all Notified Bodies are able to do all the appropriate Type Examinations
(just as not all Competent Bodies are so appointed for EVERY product under the
EMC Directive.) If you have specific issues and need to address them through
type examination under the New Approach Directive being applied, make certain
your advice comes from an appropriately appointed Notified Body.

Sorry about that.
