Some responses to the following have indicated this already but I want to emphasize the point. Some people may not be clear on this. The 61000-4 series are basic test standards.
For the EMC Directive there are three types of standards, Basic Standards that specify Test methods. Generic Standards, Specify standards and levels based on environment of intended use. Product Specific Standards. Specify test standards and levels for specific product types. To declare conformity to the EMC Directive you must use the product specific standard, or if none is published use the Generic Standard for the intended environment. The basic standards indicated may be published in the Journal and harmonized, but , until they are specified in the product specific or generic standards, they are not generally used for declaring compliance unless you are using the TCF route. A side note. The standards specified in the product specific or Generic standards do not have to be harmonized or published in the Journal in order to be applied to a product. Case in point the ENV standards in the heavy industrial Generic Immunity standard, and the IEC 801 series specified in the light industrial Generic immunity standard. ---------- From: Andy Griffin To: internet!ieee.org!emc-pstc; internet!world.std.com!treg; JWhitmire Subject: Re: Status of immunity testing standards List-Post: [email protected] Date: Thursday, December 12, 1996 11:14PM For information the following IEC/EN61000-4-x series have been issued (or draft) where 199X indicates draft :- Specification Year IEC 1000-4-1 1992 IEC 1000-4-2 1995 IEC 1000-4-3 1995 IEC 1000-4-4 1995 IEC 1000-4-5 1995 IEC 1000-4-6 1996 IEC 1000-4-7 1991 IEC 1000-4-8 1993 IEC 1000-4-9 1993 IEC 1000-4-E 199X IEC 1000-4-10 1993 IEC 1000-4-11 1994 IEC 1000-4-12 1994 IEC 1000-4-13 199X IEC 1000-4-14 199X IEC 1000-4-15 199X IEC 1000-4-16 199X IEC 1000-4-17 199X IEC 1000-4-20 199X IEC 1000-4-21 199X IEC 1000-4-24 199X IEC 1000-4-25 199X IEC 1000-4-26 199X IEC 1000-4-28 199x EN61000-4-1 1994 EN61000-4-2 1995 EN61000-4-X 1996 EN61000-4-4 1995 EN61000-4-5 1995 EN61000-4-6 1996 EN61000-4-7 1993 EN61000-4-8 1993 EN61000-4-9 1993 EN61000-4-10 1993 EN61000-4-11 1994 EN61000-4-12 1995 Be careful of referenced ENVs which will act as ENs until the EN is published.
