IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL AEA COMPANIES SELLING ELECTRONICS IN EUROPE The European Union's (EU) Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC)/CE Mark Directive: Mandatory Compliance as of January 1, 1996 for most electronics manufacturers selling product in Europe. (If this is not your area of expertise, please pass this message on to someone who might be interested). Many companies did not meet this deadline. AEA is offering a special program to help them get to compliance on April 10, 1996 at the Westin Hotel in Santa Clara, California. The American Electronics Association is co-sponsoring an important one-day conference to help U.S. electronics companies ensure they protect and advance their critical European business. SimCom, an international education and information services company with special expertise in compliance with EU Directives, will be our co-sponsor. As of January 1, 1996 the European Union's EMC Directive transition period ended. It is now a mandatory requirement. Virtually every electrical and electronic apparatus may be subject to the EMC Directive. Manufacturers must implement a compliance program not only to maintain market access but to avoid legal contention and potential liability problems. This seminar will direct companies down the path to European conformity and to obtaining the CE Mark. TOPICS TO BE COVERED INCLUDE: * PREPARING FOR THE CE MARK * A STEP-BY-STEP APPROACH TO THE EMC AND LOW VOLTAGE DIRECTIVES * CONSEQUENCES OF NON-COMPLIANCE AND AN OVERVIEW OF THE INTER-RELATIONSHIP OF EMC AND LOW VOLTAGE TO OTHER "NEW APPROACH" DIRECTIVES * HOW TO SAVE TIME AND MONEY IN THE COMPLIANCE PROCESS COSTS: The cost for attending this event depends on your AEA membership status: AEA Europe members: $200 AEA members: $225 Non-AEA members: $350 For more information, phone Anders Wexen at 202-682-9110.
