A while ago, Tony Fredriksson posted a question regarding the above issue.

Today I received a faxed reply from my contact at the SII (The Standards
Institute of Israel) to that effect. It is copied verbatim and supplied as-is.
If someone out there knows their net address, please supply:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: Eng. A. Pereiman, Manager, Technical Information Center for Exporters &
Israeli UL InfoCenter & WTO Inquiry Point.

Your query on the above subject was forwarded to me by Mr. Gidaly Belman. The
following are the relevant answers:

1. _Photometry_&_Office_Machines_ are covered by the mandatory Israeli Standard
SI 1221 which is identical, besides negligible deviation, with International
Standard IEC 950 (UL 1950 and CSA 22.2-220 [?, looks like this was a typo and
should have been -950] are almost identical with it, too). In addition, this
Standards comprises EMC requirements identical with those mentioned in CISPR
22. Compliance testing is being performed by our institution, while Israeli
Customs Services do recognize relevant certificates. To obtain a premarket
certification, you are advised to contact [Disclaimer: Translated from Hebrew,
so here I may be incorrect in the English pronunciation]:
Eng. Aharon Baharel, Head of Main Branch
Electronics lab., SII
42 Chaim Levanon Street
Tel-Aviv 69977, Israel
Tel +972-3-646-5146
Fax +972-3-646-5286

2. To obtain a license for placing _Telecom_Equipment_ on the Israeli market,
there is to apply to [Disclaimer: Translated from Hebrew, so here I may be
incorrect in the English pronunciation]:
Mrs. Paulina Weissman
Products Approval Department, Communication Ministry
9 Ahad-Ha'am, 5th Floor
Tel-Aviv 65251, Israel
Tel +972-3-519-8230
Fax +972-3-519-8249
In principle, this kind of equipment is being tested by our Institution, too,
but there has to be a request from the above office. Testing is being performed
by our Institution, by the same Laboratory (the same contact person) and in
compliance with the same safety and EMC Standards, as above. Information on
possible additional technical requirements for this kind of equipment, is being
supposed to be provided by Mrs. Weissman.

3. All this, for Israel. As for _Egypt_, unfortunately, we do not have any
information readily available. I have sent the fax to the Information Centre of
the Egypt Standards Organization, on your behalf. When and if I receive an
answer, I would be glad to inform you.

If you have any additional queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best regards

Hope this helps,
