Dear Joe, whoever Joe is and wherever Joe is.
Life is not as simple as you would like to have it. Explaining how this really
works is
more than I care to subject this crowd to. However:
(1) There is no requirement in Canada that anything have a NRTL mark, that is a
mark
needed for any equipment that goes onto premises owned or controlled by US
Federal
Agencies.
(2) There is no requirment that a NRTL mark goes on anything in the USA that is
not on
premises that are owned or controlled by US Federal Agencies.
(3) There are requirements in the National Electrical Code (USA) and the
Canadian Electrical Code to the effect that equipment must be
approved "for the purpose".
(4) Electrical Safety is Provincial/Territorial jurisdiction in Canada and
State/County/City
jurisdiction in the USA. If you want to know what will be required and
enforced in any
given location, you'll have to know what, if any, part of the CEC or NRC
were adopted
in that jurisdiction.
(5) If you want to know what "approved" means, you've got to go to the
authorities having
jurisdiction. You'll find differences, some more subtle than others.
(6) If you want to know how many of these jurisdictions there are, some 4500 in
the USA and
some 14 in Canada.
Word from the wise:
Assume you've got to meet the requirements and quit this fruitless search.
You've got
better things to do with your life. Been there, done that.
