Vic's quote from the ISO/IEC Guides confirms what I said: self-
certification is simply an obfuscatory way of saying, 'not
certified'. Self-anything is sales double-talk for 'not provided'.
          Consider, self-assembly, self-drive, self-catering, ...

But I don't agree with his 'feeling' that the BIG companies can be
trusted to regulate themselves, and it is the little fellows that
need watching. Vic obviously works for a BIG company. Trustworthy
BIG companies are usually so because they are formally regulated by
          a BIG customer.

I'm sure too that he meant to compliment his wife by saying that
the bigger the thing is the more he can trust it ... but my wife
wouldn't appreciate that comimg from me.

          Best wishes, Bernie.
