Hi Rich, Here is the European opinion regarding your question.
The CD Rom drive shall be certified to IEC825/EN60825. When the drive is certified by the testing agency, and if it is Class 1, it will have the Class 1 marking on it. There is really no need for you to mark your end product with a label. If you want to go the extra mile, refer to the drive and the laser class in your operator and service manuals. I the laser is a higher class and it is determined that the beam can be reflected to the user through a user access door, additional requirements will apply (testing and marking). Check the Declaration or License for any warnings, installation notes, etc. and the certified Class. Note: The class certified by the FDA and the class certified according to 825 can be different.
