Hello TREG'ers,

If you need to order something from the ITU, this may be helpful
to you.

I regularly order ITU-T recommendations from their Web site at
www.itu.ch - the "Electronic Bookstore." I use a credit card, and
the document is shipped to me electronically (that is, they permit
me to download a single copy after charging my card). Most of their
recommendations seem to be in the CHF 20-25 range (about US$15-20).
The card number is encoded during this transaction (I think), so
security is probably OK. So far, no problems.

However, I recently needed to order a document that isn't available
electronically, but is available in printed form. I attempted to
call the ITU Sales & Marketing number (+41 22 730 6141) several times
early in my morning (late in their afternoon) with no success (no
answer). Frustrated, I sent them an e-mail query. Their reply
included the following:

Mr. Roleson,

Our hours of business are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm. Geneva time. Unfortunately, we
are 9 hours ahead of California which means that at 8:00 a.m. your time it is
already 5:00 pm. our time. There is usually someone here after 5:00, try Bryan
Cash at the following number: 41 22 730 5285, or after Nov 3, try Dale Madsen
41 22 730 5659.

In any case we do not except telephone orders. We need either a fax or E Mail
or a letter (this of course will take a few weeks) with your complete and
exact address (Invoicing and shipping if different), the publication, and your
credit card number and expiry date. Delivery is via Normal Surface Mail, Air
Mail and Fedex is at an additional charge.

I think I will try the FAX option - It should be more secure to send my
credit card number that way than via e-mail (I hope). Wish me luck!

Best regards,
