(I posted this on 16 Oct 17:57; it has not been echoed back to me so I
assume it never reached PSTC? Apologies if this is in fact a duplicate.)

We are considering purchase of a new ESD gun for use in product testing,
mainly for CE-marking and TUV certification. The gun we use now (KeyTek)
just goes up to around the 15kV limit required by EN61000-4-2 level 4. We
are also familiar with a gun made by Schaffner. We want to be able to
test higher, to see what margin we have in our design. Printout and
programmability is desired.

Per mfr data, NoiseKen product consists of a handheld discharge gun TC-
815D(F) connected to a table-top unit (programmable voltage source?) ESS-
200AX about the size of a VCR. It is setup and/or programmed (IEC levels
1-4, manual mode, sweep mode, program mode) from menus on a small LCD
screen on the ESS-200AX. It can be connected direct to a printer. It is
also said to be controllable from an external computer "using various
interfaces" (GPIB is optional), not sure how useful this is. It claims to
meet and "far exceed" test requirements of IEC 1000-4-2, generating
discharges from 0.2 kV to 30kV, pos or neg, air discharge or contact
discharge. Discharge interval can be set from 0.05 to 600 sec. It has
built-in clock, temperature and humidity sensors, all of which appear on
the printout. We had a quick demo, it seemed easy to use.

In US, it appears to be distributed by Watahan Nohara Intl. (San
Francisco, 415-931-5829) (We have heard [but not verified] that it is
distributed in Europe by Schaffner, but not in US!)

As my Dad used to say, "The salesman spoke very highly of the product"!
But I would be extremely grateful for any more independent comments
(positive, negative or neutral), particularly from anyone who has used a
NoiseKen ESD product.

(You may choose to reply directly to me without copying the group. I will
compile or summarize any reponses I get and repost them. If you choose
this option, please let me know if your comments are confidential, or if
you wish to be anonymous!)

Thanks!
