Jack, the A surge is the standard surge. No failure mode causing harm to network. Equipment does not have to work afterwards; whereas, the Type B surge contains about half the energy of the Type A - also no failure modes causing harm to network; but equipment must be operational afterwards. A lot of people are insuring their designs are opererational after the A surge; it cuts down substantiallly oin fleid returns. In that case we call it the S surge.
