I looked over EN61000-4-2 (ESD) requirements and noted that ESD is applied to any metal points, floating or earthed, that are accessible by the operator or user. However, the standard is not specific regarding the ESD application to RS232 pins. What is the correct interpretation of the requirement with respect to conducting ESD test on exposed pins of I/O connectors? Many thanks for your response.
