To all UL members of the treg and nebs lists:

Please do not turn on your automatic "I'm out of the office message"
without first unsubscribing from the lists.

Apparently your email program is set to send these automatic reply
messages to the "reply" address, rather than the "from" address (like
most other email servers).

This causes a positive feed back loop in the treg and nebs lists resulting
in many of your collegues and potential customers receiving multiple
copies of your message. This is annoying.

In the past week we've had two loops caused by the UL server's interaction
with the lists. I had 1200 messages from the first one on treg and only
15 from the second one on nebs (I caught the nebs one faster, the treg one
ran for three days over the weekend).

I ask that all individual members control their email accounts such
that they do not become a burden to membership. Specifically:

1. If you insist on using the auto vacation reply feature of email,
UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THE LIST AS PART OF TURING IT ON.

2. Lobby your system administrator to have the auto vacation reply feature
send to the FROM: address.

Sincerely,

Jon D. Curtis, PE
