Hi Ron,

Although Canadian law specifically states that you can not offer for sale
an unapproved electrical product (not even display one at a trade show), I
was surprised that I haven't been able to locate something here in the U.S.
that specifically calls out a legal requirement other than that for
electrical installations and it's electrical network attachments and how
items are connected to the electrical network (NEC). When it comes to
products that will be used in the workplace OSHA has requirements for
approvals on the individual products located in the same area as labor
whether used directly or indirectly. As far as consumer products go, I
haven't found a thing that (except proprietary requests) that indicate
mandatory NRTL approvals.

I would be really interested in knowing if someone has anything to the
contrary as well.
