A new standard is just out or will be coming out shortly that will describe
how a PBX will indicate who the calling party is, and more importantly
where the calling party is, when calling the emergency number 911.  That
technology is not yet widely used but will be rammed down the PBX
manufacturers throats in the near future.

I am not very familiar with that standard, but it seems to me that if it
can provide that kind of information to the 911 operator, it should be
capable of providing calling numner identification outside the PBX. TIA
TR41.1.3 is doing the work.

Call I receive from people behind PBXs usually tell me what organization is
calling, not what individual in that organization or what number in that
PBX.
