Hello Pierre-Marie,

Please have a look at the India section on www.typeapproval.com.

In brief, there are two categories of approval: type approval and interface
approval. Equipment to be sold to the DoT must gain type approval. If it is
only to be sold to the general public, only interface approval is required
from TEC. The test specs and the approval procedures are different. Type
approval carries much more rigorous local presence and warranty
requirements. Many mfrs. opt only for interface approval, but if you are
planning to sell to DoT and get type approval, it is often a good idea to
first get interface approval. This can make the type approval process go
much more smoothly.

Please let me know if you've got more questions.
