Hi Colin & Treg
I have encountered this before on SDH trunk equipment where Red used to be
reserved for Major Alarm.
Major Alarm usually meant All one signal (AIS). Orange used to indicate Frame
or high bit error rate and green for
Link OK.
I do not however know of a standard for this in terms of specifying the colours
but believe it may date back to early
BT procurement specs for multiplexer type products.

Hope this helps, regards: Bill Ellingford

Subject: Reserve of Red LEDs

I've been told that in telecom related equipment the red LED indicates a
particular alarm. Can someone help me here with more specific information, such
as industry or international standards which identify the use of red for some
error condition? (Any such "official" information would be helpful.)

     Many thanks,
