>I weakened the spring and superglued the hinge back on with a steel pin
(finish nail) for added strength. Maybe I'll post a photo or two if folks
express interest.

I would be interested in a picture of this. How did you weaken the spring? I
have a Treo270 and if my hinge ever goes I want to be able to bring it back
to life quickly. :-)

>I also did a screen transplant which left a row of dead pixels (always
purple) in the middle of the display. But it still works
fine.

The top half of the case has 5 or six ribs that stick up and if you aren't
very careful when you put the two halves of the case together the flex cable
at the top of the screen gets cut by one or more of these ribs when you
screw the case shut. The traces on the flex board are very small and packed
close (I would guess 90 per inch!) so even a small nick in the cable can
take out a few columns on the display.

>Recharging is now a daily procedure.

Definitely time for a new battery.

Thanks,
Dave
