I don't know if anyone has said this, but the process of converting an
already-compressed song back to uncompressed (on a CD) and then ripping
(re-compressing) the song would lead the a considerable amount of loss of
fidelity. Now, different people have different thresholds of tolerance for
loss of fidelity. My brother can't hear it at all. It drives me crazy,
though, and even 256kbps MP3 encoding with a good quality encoder sounds
rather thin to me. Decoding and re-encoding would be dreadful, although I
suppose you could mitigate this somewhat by encoding at a very high bit
rate.

My solution is to buy the CD.

Cheers,

Don

Yes, WMA with DRM, but I burn them all to a standard audio CD (on a
CD-RW that I continually re-use for this purpose), then rip them back as
unprotected MP3s -- works beautifully. See my post from earlier today.
