As a counterpoint to this conversation, not to minimize the problem originally described, I've used VolumeCare successfully and happily on my Treo 650. I didn't find a need for it on the 600, though, since its volume was just fine. I've only used it on the 650, which needs it.
I bought it from Treo Central.
