Yes, I'd thought of that. I address my own concerns in this way:

1. The things I record are never anything that I wouldn't want
someone else to hear, so I don't care if the author is intercepting my
recordings.
2. I use MX Logic for spam filtering, so I don't really care if
this programmer sells my email address to spammers of not. I never see
the approximately 400 spam emails per day that MX Logic's system
intercepts, so I don't really care if that grows.
3. I don't know what this will cost when it goes live, but for now
it's free and kinda neat. I did ask that the capability be added to
send the voice recordings by email, if configured, rather than through
the server the developer has set up to send them through. Presumably
with that option one could simply purchase the product and not pay the
probable ongoing cost of using the service as it is now.

That's enough for me, for now, for free. One concern occurs to me now
that you mention it: how does one know that the author isn't sending
other stuff from one's Palm device to his server for data mining. THAT
could be a concern about any Treo application.

Some additional response from the developer would be appropriate at this
point.

Cheers,

Don

Subject: [Treo] Re: Beta Testers Wanted - new voice recording and
emailing app

Looks like a great app but I haven't tried it yet because of security
concerns. Where does the information sent with a voice message go and
how is it used? If I send a voice message to my primary email account
will I be opening myself up for even more spam or the possibility of
having my email address sold as part of a list? There is virtually no
information about this company on their web site - are they
legitimate, are they trustworthy, and what are their security
policies? Does anyone else worry about this kind of issue or is it
just me?
