How can you connect a laptop to the internet without pdaNet? What "extra" features does pdaNet offer? Other than BIG downloads, how can Verizon know that your using your phone as a modem?

You don't need PDAnet to connect via Bluetooth; the normal way of using Bluetooth dialup networking works just fine. PDAnet offers some extra features, though.
