Hey everybody,
So, I'm one of those oddball Treo users who, since I don't have much
use for data service, and am on Verizon, who charges an arm and a leg
for unlimited data, is happily on a pay-per-kb plan. A while back, I
did a hard reset (I can't remember if there was also a firmware update
involved, although I'm pretty certain that this time it was purely a
hard reset to manually install and get rid of the Vx-two different
Clies-m505-T2-T3 junk that had accumulated and was slowing my Treo down).

Anyway...before I did that reset, I had somehow managed to get
VersaMail so that it didn't check my server for incoming e-mail when I
sent a message, it only sent outgoing. I'm not sure that I found a
preference to do that, I feel like I had somehow either left the
incoming server blank, or put "none" or "n/a" in as the incoming server.

Now, when I (finally) restored it from my pre-reset backup, for some
reason the original server settings didn't transfer over, I'm sure
it's some preference file I missed. Leaving the incoming server blank
gives me an error message, and VM won't set up the account without
something in that field. When I use "none" as the server to try to
spoof VM, I get an error message that it can't resolve the domain name
"none". It used to not give a message, just go on to outgoing mail on
its merry way.

So, my question is twofold:

1)Does anybody know what preference file has all that server and login
info? All my message archives were there, but hidden, until I set up
new accounts with the same name as the original ones, and then the
messages in all the sent, drafts, etc. folders reappeared. If I can
restore the original ones, I'll prob be good to go.

2)Failing that, does anybody know how to get VersaMail to not check
outgoing mail at all? Is there some preference buried somewhere that
I'm missing to tell it to ONLY check incoming mail when I explicitly
tell it to, and not when sending outgoing mail?

Finally, in a tangentially related question, even though my Treo's set
to ask me for permission before it makes a data connection, most of
the time when I send e-mail in VM it just goes right on and connects
without asking. Again, it used to ask every time, and the overall
preference to ask every time is still set in the system prefs. Any
ideas what's going wonky?

TIA,
Andy
