Amen to that brother Craig!!!
I complain as loudly as anyone when the Treo isn't *everything* I want it to be, but it's *almost* everything I need it to be. Remember, Palm started this. Remember how crappy PDAs were before Palm came along? I do. They sucked! Palm took the world by storm and created the market. They have released a steady stream of increasingly-better Treos in the past couple of years. They're everywhere! People who complain about the 700p or the 680 being unstable should go back and read the Wall Street Journal article about the 700w. Yes, the latest, biggest Treo is a WinMob device now, but heck I just bought the 700p last June. If they came out with devices more often we'd be complaining about being "forced" to buy new devices too often! As it is, the 755p will be better than the 700, and then there's a whole new generation coming out at year's end. How much faster does anyone want them to come out with new stuff? The "rightness" of much of the original apps for the Pilot 1000 has been borne out by the fact that they still look pretty much like they did in 1996. They' re not behind - they were just very well done in the first place. My oft-cited efficiency metrics bear this out. Sure, I'd like flashier color and stuff. I can buy that, though. Ultimately that's not what matters. What matters is what I can get *done* with the device, and I'd say the 700p is about 97% of what I *need*, even if it's only half of what I *want*. Who knows, the 755p may be 55% of what I want, and the Linux-based machine might be 75%!! :-) Cheers, Don ________________________________ From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Craig Froehle Sent: Tuesday, April 10, 2007 1:50 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Treo] Palm Developing New Linux Powered PalmOS wah wah wah. :-/ I'm 97% happy with my 700p (compared to most things in my life, that's stellar) and all this good news today (755p, Hawkins, Palmnix) is just gravy. :-D On 4/10/07, Sandro Campos Mancini <[EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:mancini%40mandic.com.br> > wrote: > Yep. > > Until then (end of 2007), it's up to us (users) to live with a defunct OS > (developer-wise). > > I don't know you guys, but given the plethora of WinMo apps, many from > ex-PalmOS developers, many applications in fact being ported from PalmOS, if > a manufacturer were to give me WinMo 6 with a 640x480 screen and at least > 128Mb of available (usable) RAM, all that encased in something the same size > or smaller than my Treo and using the virtually standard GSM network, I'd > jump in a heartbeat. > > Palm has been promising a LOT and delivering too little for a LONG time now. > It almost went away a few weeks ago, when Motorola and Nokia wanted to > swallow it and regurgigate some "smartphone line" with their branding (or > not even that, just absorb the human capital).
