Interesting comment. I just bought a Treo 680 after a series of Palm
handhelds died [IIIc->m515->Zire 31->Zire 72s] (loved them but they
died, in my view, unexpectedly early/untimely deaths from un-
repairable crashes of unknown origin). In any event, I did a lot of
research not only on CDMA vs. GSM, but memory, functions, etc. I
wound up wanting a copper-cased Treo 680, but the only way I could
get one in that color was to buy it directly from Palm and then pick
up a Cingular package, but that would have a) given me far less
discount than buying it from Cingular, and b) Cingular claimed they
would not support any problems with the physical 680 unit, for which
i would have to contact (and then possibly ship to/from) Palm.
However, Cingular had some deal with Palm whereby they could only buy
the standard/silver colored units from Palm to supply to their
customers. Thus, I either spent a lot more money (less discounts with
the Treo/service package) or settled for a silver Treo. Now, my wife
and I are both copper enthusiasts, and would make every metal surface
in our house copper if possible, but it wasn't worth the money or
aggravation. I wish I could have found a Cingular dealer (online or
local store = same problem) that HAD a copper Treo 680 2 months ago!!!!
Thanks,
Dick Johnson
