Hmmmmmmmmm. Well, I'm pretty sure that's all flat wrong (and yes, off
topic, sorry!!) since I've been exchanging (pun intended) thousands of
emails with attachments with all sorts of internet mail users for months
with no problems. I will ask the question of my Exchange provider, but
again since Outlook has always worked fine for sending emails with
attachments to people both through Yahoo Groups and directly for months,
and since Outlook hasn't changed and since only people receiving my
emails with attachments through Yahoo groups are having the problem, I'd
say it's 95+% odds that it's a problem in Yahoo groups and 5-% chance
that it's something in Exchange.

Don't be too quick to judge the Outlook/Exchange pair, especially in the
Palm Treo world. It's here to stay, it works VERY well, and it's why I
can get my email, calendar and contacts on my 700p, usually before
Outlook gets them, at no additional cost and with no central Canadian
server farm getting in my way (take THAT! Blackberry users!!). I know
there's a lot of anti-Microsoft sentiment out there, but most of it's
misplaced. Their products provide significant function and in my
experience are very reliable -- far more reliable than Yahoo groups has
been as of late.

Cheers,
Don

This is getting off-topic, I don't, never have, (and from the looks of

things, never will) use Outlook (any flavour), nor exchange.

That said, as I understand it, outlook/exchange bundles fonts, sizes
and
such relating to your message, along with any attachments into one
winmail.dat
file attachment.

The outlook/exchange client at the other end unbundles that and makes
the
message look pretty along with all the contained attachments.

It is purely a microsoft proprietary thing, and only works with
outlook/exchange as far as I'm aware.

Mis-configured clients (again, as I understand it, be it outlook OR
exchange
OR both) are configured to send to other outlook/exchange clients that
can
handle it.
The winmail.dat attachement is never _intended_ to get into the
outside
world (non-microsoft exchange type clients) of course, but through
mis-configuration, it occasionally does.

So, if you're going through exchange to get to the outside world, it's

likely the exchange configuration that is the culprit.
