My 680 does that a lot, usually when it has just lost or just found a
signal. It does this at the strangest times and usually my Blackberry,
also Cingular, has no signal problems so I don't think it's the
carrier. It's very frustrating that the Treo can't do anything while
it's determining whether or not it can see a tower.

I'm an avid Palm fan so I hate to say it but I've really almost had it
with my 680. It reset itself twice today and I had to pull the battery
once. I've noticed that the crashes and hangs are usually while I'm
doing something with bluetooth, either listening to TCPMP (via softick
audio gateway) or using my Jawbone earpiece. It's even worse than my
old 650. I tried a hard reset and only loading the apps I absolutely
need but it's still far less stable than I would expect. I'm beginning
to suspect a hardware problem, though, as I often hear static when I use
the Treo without a headset. In fact, even when I have a headset on I
can often hear static coming from the Treo's speaker.
