Yesterday I bought a Radio Shack (274-004) adapter to allow me to use
ordinary stereo headphones to listen to music on my 700p. (The 700p came
with an earbud set, but I hate those things). The earbuds worked, but the
adapter & regular headphones didn't.
After some testing, I find that the 4-conductor plug on the Treo (&
earbuds) have Left on the tip connection, Right on the first ring, and
(apparently) microphone on the next ring, with the sleeve being the common
(as expected). Apparently the Radio Shack adapter swaps the mic & one of
the earphones. (This seems be the standard for regular cordless
telephones, mic on the tip). Stranger still, I tried a set of stereo
Plantronics hands-frees at Best Buy (after practically jack-hammering the
plastic package open), They, too, only had audio on one side, even though
they were touted to be for *listening to MP3 on your cell phone*.

Any recommendations on adapters that REALLY work with the Treo?
