That's nothing! My D70 (which I got almost 3 years ago now, I can't believe
that!) produces around 4.5MB RAW files. So I assume that the images you are
taking with these cameras are jpeg, in which case, yes, the file sizes will go
up, but not by as much, since JPEG compresses things a lot. Not so with RAW,
which is the uncompressed data from the sensor. My wife, who is a professional
photographer, has a Fuji S5. This camera has two sensors and effective12MP,
and can produce RAW+Jpeg images in one shot. According to the manual, at the
highest dynamic range/resolution/etc., they can get up to 32MB per image!

One thing to remember, as megapixels go up, so do file size. At the Sheriff's
Office Scientific Investigations Unit we went from the Nikon D70S (approx 6
megapixel, if I remember right) to the D200 at 10.2 megapixel. Beautiful
photos, but huge! They are running about 2MB each picture. We have an 8GB card
for the cameras now to give us plenty of room over the 1GB cards we used to use.
Just something to think about.
Blessings,
Jerry Godsey
