Is preventing the removal of non-text message portions possible when forwarding
messages? I was wondering if it may be a filter setting of some sort.

Is anyone else bothered by this?

The original problem was how to not have all my email, which
is forwarded
from my home email address to my Treo's, show up on the Treo. This is
because I belong to a bunch of Yahoo groups, but don't really want to wade
thru all that stuff on the go. It turns out that Versamail filters only OR
 the filter conditions.
To get rid of emails whose subjects contain Trains or Boats, but allow all
others, set up these 4 filters:
If Subject contains Trains then get mail & move to Trash
If Subject contains Boats then get mail & move to Trash
If Subject does not contain Trains then get mail & move to InBox
If Subject does not contain Boats then get mail & move to InBox

What's important is that all the *Trash* filters have to appear in the list
before any of the *InBox* filters. Note that there is a MoveUp / Movedown
pulldown menu next to each filter, so you can add additional pairs at a
 later time.
