Um, I think it does take over, although, hold on, let me check what kind
of streaming it supports... Ok, according to this page
(http://www.pocket-tunes.com/?page=features) it doesn't support
streaming WMA, just streaming MP3(Shoutcast & Live365),aac & aac+, ogg
vorbis, and wav. As far as weather internet-only stations are any
different from simulcasted ones, my uninformed understanding is that
there shouldn't be any difference. That doesn't mean that "real" radio
stations don't generally prefer a particular type of streaming
technology (like WMA perhaps for a more robust DRM??), but I know
stations that both have a terrestrial equivalent (eg local npr stations
around me) as well as internet-only ones that do MP3, and I know others
that do WMA, and some (the ones with terrestrial equivelents) actually
do both. I would bet, though, that the internet-only ones tend to only
do MP3 as that may have less limitations and licensing involved and also
has been around now for at least 7 or 8 years (the streaming version
that is)...

Hi Levi,

Is that internet streaming radio of internet-only "radio stations" or
does that include streaming of local over the air radio stations that
also "broadcast" on the internet? Or are those the same thing? KBCO
radio in Boulder, for example, is an FM station (and a darned good one)
that simulcasts (if that's the right word) on the internet. On my
laptop the stream opens in Windows Media Player. On the 700 and now the
755 it opens in Kinoma. Given that both Kinoma and PTunes are in ROM
(at least on the 755), somehow Kinoma wins right now. Maybe because the
ROM version is a limited version. If I install my
deluxe/premium/whatever version (which I own) of pTunes will it take
over the audio streaming function when I go to:

http://www.kbco.com/cc-common/streaming_new/index.html?refreshed=yes

and hit "play"??

Cheers,
Don

Er, PocketTunes has been doing internet radio streaming for quite a
while...

I don't really watch video on my Treo, but when I go to a radio internet
stream it's Kinoma player that plays it. Is there an alternative? Will
TCPMP take over that function?

Cheers,
Don

I bought the full Kinoma Player Ex at the upgrade price and I'm sorry
I did. Its performance is abominable. For example, a 640x480 30fps
video file that TCPMP can play flawlessly is unwatchably slow/stuttery
in Kinoma Player...it only gets a couple of frames a second max.

Save your $...it's not worth it unless you have scads of
low-res/low-framerate WMV files you just have to watch on your Treo.

My opinion, of course.
