Look for the before mentioned file name in the C:\Program Files\Palm\W\Backup directory where "W" should be replaced with your Hotsync name. Double click on the SMS Messages.pdb file and then sync.
Two things : 1. The messages database should never just "disappear" without you accidently deleting it via a "spring" cleaning session with a file manager program. If you didn't delete it by mistake then you may have a bigger problem on the horizon. How long have you had the device? Did you install a "new" app before the issue occurred? 2. You should have a mini-SD card and a mobile backup app like Resco Backup (if you don't mind spending money to have the best solution) or NVBackup for Free. You should never have to rely on a Hotsync to restore data to the device. A on device solution, like the above, should be in place, while the Hotsync should be used in the event that you lose the card, device or both.
