On you PC, find your Palm user folder. If you installed the Palm Desktop in the default location, it'll be in c:\program files\Palm\/<last_name><initial>/. For instance, my HotSync name is Sam Kamens, and my directory is c:\program files\Palm\KamensS. In that directory is a subdirectory called "Backup". When you sync a new device (or a device after a hard reset), the conduits will install all of the files in that directory, including any system-related files that might not be appropriate for your new device. So rename that folder or move it elsewhere - I usually move it to my desktop so I can find it. Now do a hard reset and HotSync your device. When presented with the "which user is this" dialog, select the user name you have been using. This will do an initial sync and will get your PIM data to your treo. Then you can install your 3rd party applications one at a time. Make sure to check the web sites to look for updates to your apps - most of us stick with older versions, and some of the apps need to be updated for newer devices. You'll also need to re-enter your registration codes for your apps, because the Saved Preferences file is one of the things that you won't be restoring. If you don't have the codes handy, that's a good reason to pull them together someplace where you can use them again if you need to reset. Hope this helps!
