Well, this just isn't going to work. And it seems that the larger the card I try, the worse it gets. The problem isn't the playing of the music, the problem is getting the files onto the card.
What I want is to be able to leave the card in my Treo and synch or autofill what will fit (preferably all). The problem is that when using Winamp as the manager, Winamp crashes. When using Windows Media Player, it over-stuffs the card, not leaving enough room for my Palm stuff. This was determined using a 2G card. Today, I got a 4G SDHC and tried that. Attempting to move even the 120M or so of files I have on my card as-is from a card reader to the Treo directly would crash Windows Explorer with first an error message about "delayed write" failing, then a path being "too deep", then the source location not being available. I got the same first two errors when I first tried via my hard drive. Note that the card in the Treo was the destination. The Treo was connected via Card Reader. I had to move them one directory at a time. Once I finally got all of that done, I tried to have Winamp autofill what music would fit and still leave enough room for Palm stuff, such as my nightly backups, documents, etc. It never got the transfer started. If I'm having this much trouble with lower capacity cards, there is no way it's going to work once the cards are available in the size I'd need to carry my entire music library with me. Not with a Treo 680 anyway, that's for sure. At least I can use the 4G card in my camera, so it's not a complete loss. -- Jeffrey Kaplan www.gordol.org The from userid is killfiled Send personal mail to gordol "Six?!? Whew!" (Cmdr.
