My 19 old son rarely uses email, he uses IM as the primary communication tool and until a product like the smartphone makes it available on the go, it has had him chained to the desktop. The IM app alone on the phone frees tons of folk from desktop or what I refer to as cubicle jail. It is similar to the mobile email freed our generation. Recent studies show a trend for email to be replaced my IM as the main communication tool.
