the thing is ... if Palm joins Android they lose the competitive advantage of owning the network. That's where the money is to be made. If they acquiesce to Android ... they become just another handset maker and perhaps corporate ego or financial status (future margins vs debt) won't allow them to.
Though one could argue that they were already on this path with the PPC line. But this new Palm OS is starting to sound a little like Vista.
