I google for "midi", and download midi files that sound decent, then cut a piece out of the song to use as a ringtone using "Anvil Studio", and copy that ringtone to my phone either by emailing it as an attachment or via "Card Reader" from www.mobile-stream.com. Then I move it to the midi tones db with "VFS Exchange" from http://csml.som.ohio-state.edu/~reeder/VFSExchange/
