I think a utility should be developed if there's any palm programmer here,
battery being used by each application. This is a thought. Don't ask me how
as I have no clue. It could be similar to how palm OS gives the battery
meter with more details.

I have had a similar problem from time to time. The only way out is a
battery reset. Then, after having to do that about once a day for 2-4 days,
the problem goes away, at least for weeks. I'm guessing a conflict with one
of my applications, but darned if I can nail down which one without removing
them all, adding them back, one at a time, and 30-day intervals.
