Hello, Don Yates.

3G has nothing to do with regionality. What makes it a "World Phone"
is that it works on all four of the (major) frequencies used by GSM
cellular systems. 3G (ie, "Third Generation"") has to do with the
speed capabilities of its connection, especially regarding data
bandwidth.

My gut feeling on why the first iteration of the iPhone is not 3G is
because it was designed primarily for the US market, and the major GSM
carrier in the US (at&t-formerly-Cingular) does not yet have a 3G
network deployed.

My plan is that I'll take a look at it when its software development
kit has been out long enough for third party developers have had a
chance to play with it and start releasing their stuff for it. Until
then, I'll stick with my Treo.

Talk to at&t about that. It's a software restriction, nothing more.
