Yes, you all are very silly indeed. Vista is a wonderful update from XP
(and YES I'd certainly do a clean install). I've got it on my new laptop
and my son's gaming desktop system, and I installed it on a machine I bought
in 2003, all with no issues. The press loves a train wreck (if it bleeds it
leads) and so since there have been some problems in some places with Vista,
that's all we hear about. Gee, big news: a BETA version of a service pack
for an OS had some problems - call NBC!!

Still, Vista has over double the market share of MacOS, RIGHT NOW, and
that's still with Windows XP retaining a (shrinking) share of the market at
about 75%.

Yes, for those of you who are mathematically inclined, it's

100% = WindowsXP+WindowsVIsta+MacOS+DogsAndCats
WindowsXP = 75%
WindowsVista >= 2 * MacOS
DogsAndCats = Linux, etc.

And yes, since we don't know the value of DogsAndCats we can't solve the
equation to find out the market shares of Vista and MacOS (but they're
around 12% and 5%, respectively). And yes, that means the DogsAndCats = 7%.

MacOS is NOT taking over the planet, regardless of what Steve Jobs says (or
how cool the Mac Air is). Vista and Windows 7 WILL take over the 75-%share
that XP now has.

Gosh, I must need sleep, and a new Treo/Centro/??? device to play with!!
Either that, or I'm off my meds again - never can remember which it is!!

:-)

Cheers,
Don

The biggest problem with Vista, in my experience, is people who think
that they can upgrade from a prior version of Windows.

I run a clean-install of Vista on a laptop (purchased new from HP) and
it works just fine. The only problems I had was some initial
head-banging over things like UAC, but after a reasonable amount of
time, I figured out how to disable the annoying things, got used to the
things that are different, and LIKED some of the new features.
